My qualifications now include Level 3 Certificate in supporting the delivery of PE in schools, RFU Rugby level 2 qualified, ECB Cricket coach level 2 (working towards). I have a level 3 certificate in Paediatric First aid and a National Rescue certificate for swimming teachers and coaches. I have experience of working in schools, coaching children from the ages of 6-18 in numerous sports. These include Rugby, Football, Cricket, Athletics, Volleyball, Hockey, Basketball, Handball, Orienteering, Water Polo and Gymnastics. On a voluntary basis I am the Water Polo Manager for the East Region working closely with the ASA to increase participation in the sport.
Over the last 9 years I have increased my coaching experiences, gaining huge satisfaction and enjoyment witnessing the children progress. I truly believe in Active, Purposeful, Enjoyable and Safe coaching sessions. I use a 'game centred' approach, practicing skills and techniques whilst playing a game. I greatly believe this increases the intensity therefore making the activity more realistic. Coaching in this manner gives me the flexability to concentrate on focus points, stop and assess and then return to the game.
In my view, using a game centred approach means that similar strategies can be adapted for many sports but keeps the most important factor 'enjoyment' the primary objective.
DBS qualified.
